The Google Analytics 4 Connector sends your Tracklution-tracked events to Google Analytics 4 through the Tracking Pixel and the GA4 Measurement Protocol (API). New connectors use the latest version, GA4 v2. The legacy GA4 v1 is also available; see Connector versions below.
Get these two values from Google Analytics:
G-XXXXXXXXXX.In the Tracklution dashboard click "add" or "edit" on the GA4 Connector, then work through the settings from top to bottom.
1. Enter your GA4 details. Paste your Measurement ID and API Secret value into their fields.
2. Verify your DNS settings. The connector needs first-party mode active on your domain. If you have not set it up yet, open your container's First-Party Mode tab and add the DNS record shown there to your own DNS settings. Once it is in place, click Verify DNS Installation, and the connector confirms with DNS installation verified.
3. Choose your Consent Mode option. Pick the option that matches how your consent banner works with the Tracklution script:
A selection is required to run GA4 v2, and the connector uses v2 by default once you have chosen.
:::Info You consent settings here applies to your whole container, not only the GA4 connector. :::
4. Set the connector live. Toggle the connector on to start sending data to GA4. You can also save your details now and switch it on later.
:::Warning If you already track GA4 through your site, GTM, or another integration, make sure it is not sending the same events to the same GA4 property, or they will be counted twice. Sending to a different GA4 property is fine, for example when testing alongside your current setup. :::
To confirm GA4 is receiving events, browse your site and watch them arrive under Reports > Realtime in GA4.
You can see which version a connector uses from the badge under Setup (for example GA4 v2).
GA4 v2 is the current version and the default for new connectors. It runs Google's tag directly on your site, so Google Analytics behaves as it does with a standard installation: normal sessions and attribution, and GA4's automatic Enhanced Measurement (scroll, clicks, site search, and more). It also keeps collecting events the browser would otherwise miss, such as purchases and hits blocked by ad blockers, by sending them from Tracklution's servers.
GA4 v1 is the legacy version. It runs entirely separately from your site and adds nothing to the page, delivering your tracked events to GA4 on its own. This keeps it fully independent of everything else running on your site. Because it does not run on the page, GA4's on-page features such as Enhanced Measurement are not included.
To switch versions, open Show advanced settings and use the Use legacy GA4 v1 delivery toggle.
