Why you need server-side tracking

If your tracking setup is made up of a collection of third-party pixels and you’re wondering why your numbers don't match, CAC is increasing, or why you’re not able to target and convert the right audience, well… It sounds like you need server-side tracking.

The evolution of tracking

From browser-side to server-side tracking, simplified with Tracklution

Option 1: Browser-Side Tracking

Easy but ineffective

Third-party pixels have been the standard for years. They’re free and easy to set up, but increasingly complex purchase journeys, cookie restrictions, privacy updates, and ad blockers mean they no longer capture the full picture. Your conversions disappear, and ad platforms end up optimizing based on incomplete data.

Browser-side tracking or client-side tracking (beloved child has many names)

Option 2: Server-Side Tracking

Difficult but effective

Setting up your own tracking infrastructure is an option, but it’s time-consuming, costly, and requires continuous maintenance. You’ll need developers, servers, and regular updates and maintenance just to keep it running smoothly.

Option 3: Server-Side Tracking with Tracklution

Easy AND effective

Tracklution does all the heavy lifting for you: accurate first-party data capture, offline conversion tracking, servers that scale perfectly whether it’s the off-season or peak traffic, and pre-built ad platform CAPI integrations – all in one place and set up in 15 minutes.

Where do you want to install Tracklution?

Your 3 options for tracking conversions (only one makes sense)

Option 1: Easy but ineffective 😭

Third-party pixels have been the standard for years. They’re free and easy to set up, but cookie restrictions, privacy updates and ad blockers mean they no longer capture the full picture. Your conversions disappear, and ad platforms end up optimizing based on incomplete data.

Option 2: Effective but difficult (and expensive) 😔

Setting up your own tracking infrastructure is an option, but it’s time-consuming, costly, and requires continuous maintenance. You’ll need developers, servers, and regular updates and maintenance just to keep it running smoothly.

Option 3: Easy, effective and reasonably priced 👌

Tracklution does all the heavy lifting for you: accurate first-party data capture, offline conversion tracking, servers that scale perfectly whether it’s the off-season or peak traffic, and pre-built ad platform CAPI integrations – all in one place and set up in 15 minutes.

Set up Tracklution in a few simple steps

Step 1

Install your Tracklution pixel

Install your Tracklution pixel just as you would any tracking pixel. With just a quick copy-paste, your data will start flowing to Tracklution. You can use a tag manager, install the script directly on your website, or use our Shopify or Woocommerce apps. Perfection!

Step 2

Choose which events you want to track

You can track any kind of event in Tracklution, including all the standard events you know and love (think PageView, AddToCart, ViewContent, Lead, Purchase) and any kind of custom event you wish.

Step 3

Enable first-party data

This is technically optional, but it’s essential for a proper server-side tracking setup. It lets data capture happen in a first-party context, which means better accuracy and less chance of it getting blocked.

You’ll just need to head to your website hosting provider’s DNS settings and set a CNAME record for the domain you want to track. More on that in our onboarding guide (or our friendly support team can point you in the right direction).

Step 4

Connect your ad platforms

We’ve got 9+ pre-built Conversion API connectors for ad platforms (and counting) which you can connect to in a few clicks without any technical configurations. We’ve done everything for you, such as complex data mapping for standard events, enhanced data and ecommerce data. Plus, we’re always happy to hear which connectors our customers would love to use next!

Step 5

Connect your CRM or basically any other system for offline data

Want to send offline conversion data, like phone calls, in-store purchases, or qualified leads, back to ad platforms? With Tracklution, you can. It’s also optional, but it helps with optimization by closing the customer journey loop. You’ll do it using something called a webhook, but don’t worry, it’s a simple, plug-and-play setup. And if you want help, we’re here! 🤗

🎉

Job done! Your ad platforms finally know what’s actually working.

Ready-made CAPI connectors

Use these and other Conversion APIs with one simple app (that's Tracklution). No need for configurations, coding work or technical skills – just plug and play!

Still have questions?

What happens if I don’t use server-side tracking?

You’ll lose conversion data due to ad blockers, iOS restrictions, and browser privacy updates. That means ad platforms will optimize based on incomplete or inaccurate data, costing you more money.

Do I need a developer to set this up?

Nope! Tracklution is built to be used by all kinds of marketers. If you’ve never worked with tracking before and would like a helping hand, our friendly team is here to help you.

But what if I have developers and servers already—why not build this in-house?

You can build your own server-side tracking setup—but it’s not a one-off project. You’ll need to manage cloud infrastructure, maintain multiple API connections, handle deduplication logic, stay on top of every platform’s changes, and build out support for offline conversions.

Tracklution gives you all of that out of the box. Fully managed, always up to date, and built to scale. Your devs can focus on your product, not maintaining a mini attribution engine.

How does this work if sales happen later or somewhere outside our website?

You can track offline conversions using webhooks. That includes phone calls, in-store sales, CRM-qualified leads – basically anything that happens outside your website. Just send those events to Tracklution, and we’ll pass them to the right ad platforms.

Will this slow down my website?

No. Since Tracklution processes data on the server side, it’s much more efficient and faster than traditional client-side tracking.

How is it possible that you get a conversion uplift at all?

When your ad platforms get better data, they optimise better. So this means sharper targeting, smarter bidding, and higher ROAS. It’s not magic (even if it might seem like it) it’s just better inputs leading to better outputs.

How long until I see results?

An eager beaver, huh? We love to see it. Most users see a difference within a few days—especially if your tracking was patchy before. Conversion counts go up, ad platform signals improve, and campaign performance starts trending in the right direction.

Why not just use server-side GTM?

sGTM is powerful, but it comes with a lot of overhead. You’re responsible for setting up and managing the servers, keeping APIs up to date, debugging data issues, and configuring everything manually for each platform.

Tracklution does all of that for you, with prebuilt connectors, automatic deduplication, offline conversion support, and a fully managed backend. It’s like going from DIY to done-for-you.

Do I need a server-side tag manager, then?

Nope, you don't need a server-side tag manager. Your current, already running (client-side) tag manager is enough. You can re-use everything you’ve already set up there.

Does Tracklution deduplicate conversions across platforms?

Yes. We automatically handle deduplication to ensure platforms like Facebook and Google Ads don’t count the same conversion multiple times.

What kind of API access does Tracklution provide?

We offer webhooks for receiving conversion data, so you can integrate Tracklution with any system.

Isn’t server-side tracking just finding consent workarounds?

Not at all. Server-side tracking doesn’t bypass consent, it just changes how data is sent. You still need to handle consent properly on your site, and Tracklution can be configured to respect whatever consent setup you’re using.

So is this GDPR compliant?

Tracklution is built to support GDPR compliance, but like with any tool, it depends on how you use it.

We do our part: data is stored in Europe, we’ve got solid data processing agreements (DPAs) in place, and data can be removed by request any time.

Safeguarding our customers’ data is our number one priority. Our infrastructure is independently validated by industry-standard frameworks like SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Importantly, we never gain access or control over your data – we simply provide the technical infrastructure for you to track and transmit it securely.

You’ll still need to do your part: make sure you have a legal basis for collecting data and that your consent setup is in place.

With us, you get full visibility and transparency. Unlike most tracking setups, Tracklution removes the black box. You’ll always know what’s being tracked, where data goes, and how it’s handled, which makes staying compliant a whole lot easier.

How much does this cost?

Enjoy the first 30 days on us—no credit card required, and you can cancel anytime. After the trial period, you can explore our pricing options here.

Can I just do this later?

You can, but you’ll keep wasting your budget until you fix your tracking. The sooner you set up Tracklution, the sooner your data gets sorted, and the faster your campaigns can improve.
